French cable operator Numericable manages its digital achives with Maarch Framework

NANTERRE - French cable operator Numericable chose open source application Maarch Framework to be the foundation of its new electronic document and records management system (EDRMS).

After the merger of NC Numericable and Noos in 2007, the company wanted to integrate the record management systems of the two entities. For the operator, customer file management is a very critical activity : every document (contracts, invoices, mail, etc.) must be available on premise, but also by customers themselves and by external vendors, such as call centres assuring help desk service. Not to harm the quality of service nor user's productivity and satisfaction, the application elected was to be fast, powerful, and simple to use.

Maarch Framework has been chosen as a mature and evolutive open source solution, whose total cost of ownership (TCO) is much inferior to proprietary solutions for a project that wide, especially because there is no license cost.

Besides, technical and operating constraints were strong: the application, based on Maarch Framework, has taken over the 100 million documents recorded in the old solution, and to become functionally equivalent in less than three months. The flexibility of Maarch Framework and the availability of Numericable and Maarch teams brought this project to success: the application is operationnal during summer 2009, and records several million new documents each month since.

Finally, to achieve this project, Maarch Framework has been optimised for Oracle databases. Numéricable, in the spirit of open source, has financed the port of Oracle connectors for Maarch Framework in the community version. It will be released in the coming version 3.1 of Maarch Framework.
